Ayudha Pooja will be celebrated on October 16 this year. This pooja has a great significance during Vijayadashmi, the last day of the festival of Navratri or Durga puja. Infact, Ayudha Pooja is also known as Vijayadashmi.



The worshipping of weapons is done during Ayudha Pooja. According to the Indian mythology, the ninth form of Goddess Durga, Chamundeshwari killed the buffalo headed demon known as Mahishasura his associates, after which there was no use of weapons for her. So she kept them aside and started worshipping them. From then on, the ritual is still being followed.
